I'm not sure which candidate will win but I hope he will be able to get this country in order again as it is the pits right now. So many things have to be corrected that he will have a long way to go and will need a lot of help not only from Congress but also from the People.

No matter which candidate wins, that person is now in office. I would hope that we could all get along and support our elected officials. The next election is our opportunity to change whatever we don't like. But at the present time we should support our elected officials rather than undermine them. This doesn't mean we have to agree with what they do but don't keep backstabbing.

My hope for our country is that no matter who becomes our next president, he will work with the congress to get us out of the mess that the government has gotten us into in the first place. We need lower taxes, better health care and more regulation on the banking industry. We sure don't need any more Freddies and Fannies. And I would hope that the media would stop badgering one party while praising the other. Fairness and truth in reporting is much needed.

I hope that gas prices continue to go down and that Pell Grants are given a raise (the amount of money that is given to each student who qualifies) as well as a revamping of the educational system that encourages more charter schools and private schools (being opened). I also hope that a troop withdrawl will happen but not in such a way that we have sacrificed for nothing, too many have died for there to be nothing accomplished. I hope that the bailout is persued to be paid back and that the government (we the people) will actually make a profit out of this loan to wallstreet. I would also like to see the bigwigs who profitted from the mess they made be held accountable and have everything taken back from them and they should all be prosecuted!

I am looking forward to big changes in the country. I want to see the war in Iraq ended and our people come home. I think we need to pay more attention to the homeland and our problems here: poverty, famine, no jobs, too much money going to the war. I'm looking forward to all peoples pulling together as one--Americans--rather than as individual races, nationalities or religions. We need to rebuild for a stronger, braver, united America.

There are several issues that each of the canidates have that I disagree with. And it really doesn't matter who is elected, we are witnessing a historical event. We will either have the 1st African American (I really hate those politically correct phrases too), or the 1st female V.P.. As it turns out Obama won the election. I rooted for him when he was running for the Senate the 1st time. And he accomblished some good things for the State of Illinois. What we need to do is band together and stand behind our new President. But I also strongly feel that it would be wrong of us to just pull our troops out of the Middle East. And I hope his advisors convince him to stand back for awhile. And I pray that he will be given the opportunity to do some good for The United States of America.

We need someone with a backbone! Someone who will look at what Austrailia did and follow suit....if you want to "join" our country then you need to "learn" our country...why are we...the americans...the ones who have to learn a new language, pay more for health insurance, pay more taxes, pay for a better education for our children, etc., etc., etc., and the ones that "join" us are getting free health insurance, no taxes, free education, not to mention the free food, housing, medicines, and government checks...enough is enough!

My main hope is that we will be able to recognize the main tenants of our country four years from now, specifically our freedoms (such as they may be even now) and that we will be able to continue our own individual hopes, dreams, and aspirations. We don't need to be forced to support or lift up those who do not want to put forth the same effort. Dreams are realized through hard work and personal sacrifice. Americans are the biggest givers in this world whenever a disater strikes or we know of another in our community, our country or even in the world in need, is that we respond to thaose needs - in a big way. It would be nice to know we will be able to continue to do that in the future.

For the first time since Kennedy, I feel deep, honest, life-giving Hope. Past messes by numerous administrations take time to fix. Patience and concerted, cohesive efforts of many, are needed to turn The Ship off rocky shoals, onto navigable waters: help Ourselves and the World repair damages. Obama cannot do it alone. The People must say what we WANT the world to look like. Fix environmental issues: without a functional world, there's no point in anything else. As those get fixed, associated repairs to education, support for sciences, more jobs, cleaner industries, better medical coverage and care will happen: Everything is linked to environment. The World knows "as the US goes, so goes the world". We finally placed a candidate they respect into office--a rare occurrence! Take deep breaths, roll up shirtsleeves, get ready to work!

I have hopes that with new people will come new ideas that will get our country on the road to financial recovery. No matter who was elected they would have a large struggle this first year to work towards financial recovery and to settle our affairs overseas. We are very naive if we believe that we have full honesty in our officials and that because of a new election there will be straight across the board in making laws and passing legislation that will fix everything. We just have to make sure we study and elect those we believe in and make sure the check and balances are in order.

Right on, Grace! I’m so tired of our tax money being spent to provide accommodations for people who are here illegally. Neither candidate for president is willing to address this issue for fear of offending someone. Why be afraid of offending illegal aliens? They can't vote. I've heard Obama talk about companies that ship jobs overseas; what about companies that hire illegal aliens? The jobs are gone no matter what happens. We will never get ahead no matter how much we work and save because the government will find ways to take more tax dollars and use them to help criminals (or people who refuse to help themselves). Our infrastructure can't support this huge, unplanned growth in population. Our schools are not equipped to provide so much ESL help. Please, anyone who is frustrated about this, continue to write your political leaders. You can visit www.numbersusa.com, which provides a free fax service that allows you to send personalized faxes to your political leaders.

Obama gave a great victory speech. McCain gave a great concession speech. If McCain had kept the tenor of his campaign consistent with his concession, this race would have been much, much closer. That, coupled with Sarah Palin, wrecked him. Obama's campaign was a smooth juggernaut. He never lost his sense of direction or purpose. He is to be congratulated for his campaign. If he runs the country like he ran his campaign, this country has nothing to fear, and much to gain, from him. Let's get to work!

Politicians care more about their interests than the needs of the people they are to represent. If they cared so much about us then why do they have more benefits and money than us average tax payers? I wish I had the same garenteed health insurance and pension plan as the politicians, than I would say all citizens are equal and I would not loose sleep wondering if I will loose my health insurance because employers can drop benefits at any time. We citizens need to remind politicians that we put them in office and we too can take their benefits and jobs away if we stick together and demand changes.

I agree with what I have read from the others who responded. Just know this and you probably already do,it is not going to happen overnight. Bush left him a mess to contend with amd I am sure he will filter through it and do what he has promised us he would do. He has 4 years to prove his mettle and I think he will surprise all of us even the ones who didn't want him in there. Obviously there were some republicans who wanted change and also voted for Obama. Also to the congressmen and women we work as hard as you do and we pay into social security and we get barley enough to survive on and you don't even pay in and you get way to much when you retire. That is not justice.

Everyone seems to forget that it's not up to the President to fulfill our hopes and dreams...we must work ourselves to accomplish what we want....to blame our current president or future presidents when they are done with their terms is stupid because most decisions that affect our lives start with the bad/good ones that we personally make and then they trickle up to those who end up making bad/cood choices for the country. my hope for the country, or at least my neck of the woods, is that after the vote is said & done, people get their blasted advertisements off our neighborhood's fences. i hate looking at all that garbage day in & day out. i know it's a law that politicians who put up advertisements have so many days to remove them. so cops... do your duty and fine them for leaving our city a trash heap.

I would like to see intelligent, bi-partisan leadership restored in Washington that truly focuses on the needs of people and acts on principle rather than self-interest and expediency.

I certainly hope Obama wins and the Dems take Congress overwhelmingly, end the illegal war in Iraq; take steps to fix the economy (NOT by bailing out insurance companies & Wall St. firms); restore corporate regulations; restore habeas corpus; bring us together as a nations; restore our world image; create a WPA-type jobs program; work on the infrastructure; overturn the Bush administration's dangerous programs for the rich; take immediate steps to impeach Bush & Cheney; get rid of Pelosi & Reid. As for lowering taxes, with what money do you people think Bush has been paying his vile bills????? I would love to pay lower taxes, but then, it's time to waker up, America: We pay, they spend. I don't mind if the money goes to pay for social programs like, Social Security, Medicare, National Health Care; edfucation, and the like.

I hope that the change promised will include an increased focus on education. Studies show that the more educated a person is, the less likely he or she is to commit crimes and go public assistance. I would also like to see an increase in the standards rather than a continued downward adjustment of expectations. People perform to 80% of expectation, so raise the bar.

I'm looking forward to seeing a fresh new face bringing in fresh new ideeas to office. I'm a little fearful, bur hopeful at the same time that Obama can save our plunging economy. I hope to see some healthcare reform.

I hope we get a President that will think of the little people instead of who can do them the most good. I hope they get the economy back on its feet and bring a little peace to the people. Consider health care Socical Security and not raise taxes any more, We can't take it.

Either way I wish to see our people being cared for health and secure, troops return home to protect our borders, and let's get back to business here at home. We need to work together and work hard to be the greatest country on Earth, get our spot back to #1. Stop spending money on people that hate us and make us pay for what we tear up while we are fighting for them!!! Save our money! Pay our bills and get our alternate fuel straight, and ween ourselves of overseas bloodmoney for oil!!! Values of school are wrong, they are copy for copy of each year of years. The old way - by a competent book - free thinking. Enable these young minds to grow and get us back to the top...school is broken for the child left behind item! Toss it!!

I would like the country to become one as a whole. I would love that our troops come home and lets start taking care of our own people instead of people who do not like us. We have starving people here, we have homeless people which have probable doubled with the state of our financial system going to pot. Let's come together to pick and choose our battles. Life is too short!

I am hoping for an improved ecomony, more jobs, housing forclosures to cease. I am tired of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. I am also tired of CEO's and other top executives taking millions of dollars in compensation when their workers are being laid off, pay reduced, etc.

My hope is that this country, will have a leader who knows how to get us out of Iraq without bring the war here, and I think we all want it over but to many want it over without thinking of the price thats been paid already and quitting before its finished or not doing it in a responible way, with someone who knows what its like for our troops and have the best outcome, will bring disaster here. I also hope we can get back to the Godly principles and things our founding fathers set forth, we are a blessed country and a blessed country has certain responsiblitys, the fact we have to vote to treat animals humanly, to keep marriage sacred and children safe says were far from what they intended , how can we expect Gods blessings when right and left were stomping on God and our forefather desires for us

I hope we will begin to invest more in our own country and less in foreign governments that end up hating our involvement after they are through needing us. I hope we can become less dependent on foreign oil and bring jobs back to this country. I hope the middle class will actually become strengthened as promised and that we will become more giving as a society and more willing to volunteer.

I hope that the middle class American can stop being pushed and falling through the cracks. We are getting less and less and have a harder and harder time to get ends to meet -- in housing, health and just day to day living at a somewhat comfortable position. We get less and less help from government, fewer and fewer breaks from anyone and have to do everything outselves at our own expense. I see the poor getting housing, food, medical and the rich getting discounts, freebies and big bonuses. The middle class gets none of this. Isn't it about time that we get what we have worked all our lives for????

My hope is that the economy turns around and America becomes booming again with local jobs. I would like to see an end to our troops in Iraq and more focus on helping poor Americans. We need more affordable health insurance. I pray that our new President will do what's best for our country.
