It has been an era of many accomplishments but I think the best invention is the computer. It serves as a learning tool, a communication tool, a resource tool. This is not only the PC as we know it but computer capabilities that allow persons with physical and mental challenges to reach their potential and live happier more productive lives. In the business world the database tools make each and every worker more productive. What if's and analysis is endless. There are no age limits for its use and benefits.

The computor has saved me hundreds of hours in research on medical questions and medications. If not for the computor I would be making doctor appointments for answers rather than looking them up myself.

There are a few that immediately come to mind, but I think cell phones are probably the most important. I have had to use mine in the middle of nowhere in Idaho when my car broke down on a trip. I don't know what I would have done without it. It was fortunate that I was in an area that received service because I was on an interstate for almost two hours before help came and no one stopped to inquire if I needed help.

I feel a best invention in the last 50 years would be the recycling bins. It helps to keep the earth cleaner and helps with reusing discarded items. We as Americans can really discard alot of items. It's great that we can convert plastics into carpet, paper into useable toiletries, and all the other things we can change from one state of matter to another. The list of possiblities is endless.

Internet! Helping my child to homeschool even though she attends public school system. Works from text books, work books, and labs as you do in a brick and mortar school. But gets even more insight through the great online examples and instant videos - can see how things work in action. Attends some class time connected to other students and the homeroom teacher - where the students can speak to the teacher and even see the whiteboard as the teacher works with the students. Now that's awsome!

I think the Internet because of all the information that's at our finger tips and the amount of time that it saves especially when gas prices were so high. I did a lot of my shopping online. This was a very hard subject because there are numerous inventions in technology, medical and etc. that have made our lives so much better than our ancestors.

cell phones are great and are the cause of most of the car accidents now because no one pays attention to the road or pedestrians. They should pass the law no cell phones in cars ever. Wait till you stop driving than make your call after all before we had cell phones what did you do??? The majority of people who drive never use the cell phones for emergencies only they talk just to talk and do not pay attention to the road and do not care to. I say the best invention in last 50 years would be the 1st successful artificial human heart (early 80's)....as well as two other great inventions in the 60's - getting the laser to work and developing LED technology. (I know - that makes 3 - but all are worth mentioning.

The microchip.. it allowed our technology to evolve into discrete, personal tools rather than the behemoths that came before. I think there are so many inventioons in the last fifty years but the color television and the computer would be the best. It makes doing things so much easier. I'd say computers but these were already here over 50 years ago. I'd say the microwave oven but maybe it was also here before 1958 although not priced or developed for the consumer market. Perhaps the video cassette recorder is among the best.

I know it is redundant, but I have to say the internet as well. We use it for work, play, research, communication, so many things. Our world would be SO different without it. I think that tv was the best invention in the past 50 years. I think it is so great because you can learn so many things from it. You could watch the news to know what to wear to work or your kids could be comfortable at school with the weather. You can also have some fun with the television. You could watch a show that you enjoy. It could be court tv or tnt. But for your children there are great shows like Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, and for the little ones, Play house Disney, and Nick Jr.
