It would have to be the computer. It completely changed the way our society operates in almost every aspect of life. The technological applications of the computer can be seen in almost everything we do or use. Somewhere along the line there is a computer involved.

The internet and at home compact computers. The internet allows me to keep in touch with the world at large. Everything from politics, shopping, medical info, paying our bills, history, education (I am disabled and have earned a degree on-line, how great is that!) I use the computer to learn so many things. My children use and have used the computer for education as well as fun. This past Presidential campaign was so easy to keep up with because of the internet. I have medical problems that I can research and figure out my best plan for recovery wihour spending a fortune. Communication with so many others from different countries is so important in our world today. Yep the Internet and computers, the BEST!

Hands down, it's got to be the personal computer. It has enabled so much more to happen, like the internet, and advanced gaming that simply wouldn't be anything like they are today without it. The fact that PC's are relatively cheap truly opens access up to virtually everyone making us more of a global community than ever, truly amazing, and the first technology to do it.

Wow! This is one of the hardest questions you have ever asked. There are so many inventions from time saving, entertainment, energy efficient, life saving and money saving also. I like rechargable batteries because it saves our landfills and doesn't allow toxins into our environment, DVD's for partly the same reason, plus they last longer then VHS (and of course our DVD & VHS players). Electric washing machines and dryers because they are time and energy saving. Cell phones and GPS as they are life saving and the cell is time saving also. I admit I also like my computer and internet. You no longer have to pay thousands of dollars for encyclopedias, they combine news, entertainment and knowledge in one package for which the microchip had a great deal of influence. I guess overall, it would be the computer and internet as it really does help me find out anything I need to, from a recipe for dinner to helping with school work!

The Computer is first. Any one remember when the computer took up a BIG room? Years later we got 'on line' dial up! Anyone remember the comadore computers with a tape drive (the memory)? We have come a LONG way in 30 years! Forget 'dial up', we have high speed internet. All is a FLASH! Young people don't know anything about it. I am very HAPPY I have all of it. Even tho I really need a new computer. Mine is getting a little slow ... old/sick ... I've had it for about 6 years. It is still the best thing that I've ever had! Not ready to buy something else at this time!

The "Helical Cage" wind generator, currently being installed on skyscraper roofs in Chicago. Non-directional, ultra sensitive, & not oversize, like windmill-style generators. Self-governing, (won't overspin in high winds, ripping itself apart), & production & installation costs much lower. Non-fossil fuel energy will be the most important change in the near future. (Especially in the U.S.)

The computer. I know there were some before 50 years ago, but mostly they were huge and unmanageable. I never received any training on them when I was in high school. We had a computer there but it was to help the school and we students had no access to them. I know that was slightly more than 50 years ago, but even when I married practically 52 years ago, I still had no experience with computers.

What is the best invention in the last 50 years? I think the cell phone. The computer has revolutionized life, but the cell phone has affected every aspect. No need for pesky land lines, no need to sit by the phone waiting for people to call, no need to have a computer nearby to search the internet, and even no need to have a planner or scheduler as most cell phones have that built in now. The cell phone has increased human's awareness, ability to share information, and ability to be productive in multiple ways at the same time. Think of the last time you got a flat tire on the middle of the highway... That cell phone was nice to have, wasn't it?

I believe that Cell phones are the best thing that has been invented in the last 50 years. There is nothing like being able to leave the house and having the abality to talk to someone at home. If you're needed for an emergency or just need to pick up something from the store, so no looking for a pay phone on a street corner anymore.

I have met all of my friends on the Internet and if we didn't have it then I would not have friends in Australia, England, Canada, all over the USA and all over the World. I love the Internet and wouldn't trade it for anything. Thanks for letting me Sound Off.

I would say GPS. It locates lost pets, stolen cars, wayward teenagers and pinpoints weapon strikes. It allows contact in vehicle accident situations even when there is no cell phone service. Finally, it can give you driving directions and maps to help you find your destination and points of interest when you get there. I'm sure that there will be many new uses found in the future too.

The best invention in the past 50 yrs would have to be both the internet and the cell phone. I have kept incontact with friends over the net and found long lost friends over the net that I wouldn't have been able to do without it. The cell phone cause you have the time and always have a way to call someone if something happens. Some services work even out in the middle of no where. Such as where my dad lives in S.Dakota, on a farm in the middle of nowhere. It's great!

Both let us have the ability to interact with others, as well as find information, and you can get the internet with both, the computer and the cell phone these days. So I would say that those are the two things that I would consider the best inventions within the last 50 years.

The growth in medical research and developement in finding causes for diseases; preventing deaths to diseases that would have been a death sentence 50 years ago. I also believe that transplants are an important and miraculous extent of medical brillance, and can honestly see a lot more lives saved where there are no cure to certain diseases, where the organs at fault can be transplanted in the meantime. Granted it will indeed be a far better world when no transplants are needed, but in the meantime I see this is a great step forward in medical research. On a personal- non-medical standpoint, I'm extremely glad the personal computer is what it is today and the internet makes knowledge on almost any subject just a keystroke away.

It has been an era of many accomplishments but I think the best invention is the computer. It serves as a learning tool, a communication tool, a resource tool. This is not only the PC as we know it but computer capabilities that allow persons with physical and mental challenges to reach their potential and live happier more productive lives. In the business world the database tools make each and every worker more productive. What if's and analysis is endless. There are no age limits for its use and benefits.
