I feel a best invention in the last 50 years would be the recycling bins. It helps to keep the earth cleaner and helps with reusing discarded items. We as Americans can really discard alot of items. It's great that we can convert plastics into carpet, paper into useable toiletries, and all the other things we can change from one state of matter to another. The list of possiblities is endless.

I would have to say Computers are the best invention in the last 50 years. They make it possible to track and trace so many areas. They have made it harder for criminals and easier for law inforcement. They also have enhanced education posibilities and the banking industry.

Internet! Helping my child to homeschool even though she attends public school system. Works from text books, work books, and labs as you do in a brick and mortar school. But gets even more insight through the great online examples and instant videos - can see how things work in action. Attends some class time connected to other students and the homeroom teacher - where the students can speak to the teacher and even see the whiteboard as the teacher works with the students. Now that's awsome!

cell phones are great and are the cause of most of the car accidents now because no one pays attention to the road or pedestrians. They should pass the law no cell phones in cars ever. Wait till you stop driving than make your call after all before we had cell phones what did you do??? The majority of people who drive never use the cell phones for emergencies only they talk just to talk and do not pay attention to the road and do not care to. The best invention in last 50 years computers....

I think the Internet because of all the information that's at our finger tips and the amount of time that it saves especially when gas prices were so high. I did a lot of my shopping online. This was a very hard subject because there are numerous inventions in technology, medical and etc. that have made our lives so much better than our ancestors.

The computor has saved me hundreds of hours in research on medical questions and medications. If not for the computor I would be making doctor appointments for answers rather than looking them up myself.

There are a few that immediately come to mind, but I think cell phones are probably the most important. I have had to use mine in the middle of nowhere in Idaho when my car broke down on a trip. I don't know what I would have done without it. It was fortunate that I was in an area that received service because I was on an interstate for almost two hours before help came and no one stopped to inquire if I needed help.

Well let's see. The cellular telephone would probably be my favorite. Rember now, computers have been around more then 50 years. The NAZI's used IBM computers to schedule the trains that took the jews to the camps. And micrwaves have been around since the 30s. Even hybrid vehicles have been around. The first Mercedes was an electric. Recorded music has been around for over one hundred years.

I think the cell phone. Not everyone has a computer or internet. But the cell phone is carried with you where ever you go. If you have an accident you can call for help right then not have to find a home with a phone. If you see a crime happening call the police. You can go on the internet with your cell phone, you can take pictures, and send them to other cell phones or to computers. You have a calendar, calculator, world clock, notepad, what else could anyone want. Now think, if you didn't have a cell phone in your life how would your day go?

the feature of ONSTAR for your vehicles. it has alerted the proper authorities when people couldn't speak after accidents, or it has helped the elderly who do not have cell phones, but have gotten lost, or who have alzheimers, and the gps tracking feature has help to find them.........it is a life saver! thanks ONSTAR!

I'd say computers but these were already here over 50 years ago. I'd say the microwave oven but maybe it was also here before 1958 although not priced or developed for the consumer market. Perhaps the video cassette recorder is among the best.

Wave energy turbines, or landfill 'caps' and the technology to convert the gas into electricity. I'd have to at least place the internet as a runner up. It has really helped propel animal rescue efforts forward.

I would think most people would think of inventions that pertain to themselves. Computer, cable, internet,microsoft, tv's with High Definition and cell phones are the likely answer you should receive. Indoor plumbing..I'm only a "baby boomer" but I can remember outhouses and heating water to bathe!! I also went to a one room school house, this all happened in Minnesota, South Dakota and Nebraska...Anyone out there that want to go out side in the rain/snow to go to the outhouse?? Or have to heat the water on top of the stove. Thank goodness we have toilets, hot water heaters and they are all indoors--not to mention having clothes washers and dryers!! And no one like to remember doing the dishes, pots and pans by hand when they can be put in the dishwasher..too many advances...
