I think twitter is being over used to the point of ridiculousness. One example of ridiculous is our congress taking the time to tweet when they can't even take the time to read the bills they are voting on. Also, news reports find it necessary to report on the mindless dribble that is posted there by the latest "in" person. I chose to get a twitter account to get a discount on something I purchased. All I had to do was tweet the item and the website. That was 4 months ago. Since that time I am constantly emailed saying new people are following my tweets. Why? I have nothing there and never intend to. It's a waste of time, but complete strangers are waiting to hear useless one liners out me. I don't understand it???!!!!

I think it's contributing to the degradation of intelligence in our young people. The max amount of "space" to type on these is about 15kb - which translates to about a 5 word sentence. We are reducing ourselves to 5 word sentences...& therefore promoting improper English, spelling & reading! It cultivates nosiness & bad manners. WHO CARES what time so & so went to a show or dinner or the store and especially to the bathroom?? I think it's really sad that we are condoning such vapid, shallowness in our lives today and I stay clear of people who Tweeter! Same goes for people who are on MySpace. I stay clear of them because they are usually very weird & insecure. Facebook, I have mixed feelings about... I wouldn't use it but I have friends who do and they seem to like some of the features...

Is society going to lose the ability to communicate face to face with people. Texting, twitter, facebook etc. - get outside, look around you and talk to someone, just a smile and hello.

It is a total waste of time. If a child has time to do twitter then they have time to help around the house like clean their rooms, do laundry, dust, vacuum, help with the meals, do dishes, take care of the dogs, mow the lawn & do their homework. When I was a child if I said I was bored I had to pull weeds or clean house. I never said I was bored again. Come on parents get control of your children.

If someone thinks that OUR president should use it, or control it, or even give it any thought at all, it just goes to prove there are more TWITS (in the real original meaning) and even in the White House. We need to spend more time on REAL education (again in the real meaning of the word). Spreading horse manure is a far better and useful pastime.

I guess if you have friends to follow, but who can remember to post up every little thing your doing? "I'm going to the bathroom now", "I'm going to take a nap", "I'm hungry so I'm going to find something to eat". As long as you don't go to crazy with it, it's okay.

A lot of talking about what is really just a limited text mail service. To me, the scary part seems to be following clebs and others as they tweet what they are doing - then, of course, hearing these folks complain of lack of privacy when their photos are taken.

I don't care about any of the social networking stuff. I think it is fine for getting in contact with friends, etc. But I think people put too much value on what others think. No one questions validity anymore. why do i care what some star is doing that day. who knows if it is real. They don't care about you or me. It is just feeding their ego. Most actors and people of fame that post on twitter have no connection to the everyday grind that the rest of us face. They are pampered and coddled and then pretend that they have it tough. I don't want to hear how they think the world should be or what they do for it or what they think in general. most of them are just mindless twits that are spoonfed things and can't make up their own mind and just jump at the most popular view to boost their popularity. In short, Twitter is just another sign of the mental decay that racks society today.

Something else I should have added. Both Myspace and Facebook should be shutdown, or at least be closely scrutinized by the authorities, followed by the same methods applied to Youtube. Myspace is close to creating the kind of mayhem that pervaded the basic singles scene of the past century.

I think that it is fun for the kids and teens. It is also a great way to find your old class mates that you lost contact with. The bad thing is when they don't remember you or just don't care. I also can never really find anything to say on it except, Hey I sell Mary Kay. It is great for that. It to load pics of my family and friends to show a bunch of family and friends that live far away so I dont have to email all of them.

I do not usually have reason for Twitter, but our kids' swim team has large meets and there is not enough seating in the ready/race area, so they update when your child needs to be ready via Twitter. Very helpful in this case.

Common wisdom would seem to suggest that more and better communication would be better, but experience is showing that it creates more problems and mis-communications. To much communicating and very little understanding. Animals don't speak the same languages and yet they can understand each other. Another indicator that the human ego is larger than anything in the universe. Until we, as humans, realize that we are not the most important thing in the universe, we are doomed and we will take everything else with us.

Haven't been there, don't plan to. Who cares what people are doing all the time anyway? I know how to get in touch with all my friend and family and if I want to know what/how they are doing, I will either call, email or visit them. For the same reason, i also don't do myspace... there are enough people in my life, I don't need to fill it with others I will never meet.

Wow all I see are negative comments. Guess I will be the only one to say I love Twitter. A friend told me about it months ago and we joined up as a way to keep in touch. I won concert tickets from a radio station on Twitter which resulted in meeting a few celebrities. If you're not on there following Michael Ian Black you are missing out. Everything he tweets about is hilarious.
