Why does everyone think that people will take on a car payment they cant afford? Maybe people who could afford it, but were just waiting for a better deal, found one. I would have liked to participate, but I knew I could not afford a car payment and my car is paid off.

No Way. I do not want to be GUIDED or LED into purchasing a certain kind of auto. I have a small car to drive around town and to work, but picking people up at the airport or taking a trip over 2 hrs. long in this car is a joke. I want big and comfortable. Global Warming is nothing but a gimmack to get us to buy new and price-y.

My son's friend got a great deal on a new Nissan & traded in his old Pathfinder. He'll get much better gas mileage. Those carping that the program wasn't limited to American cars don't seem to know that most "foreign" cars sold in the US are also made here by American workers. And a lot of those crying about not having a job or money for a new car also don't seem to be able to spell simple words in English. Think that might have something to do with your employability??

No I didn't participate but it was very appealing especially a Hyundai deal for 2009 cars only 9550 plus that cash for clunkers would be awesome huh?

My "clunker" has 314,000+ miles on it and gets 33 mpg, so she wouldn't qualify anyway. She's worth way more than $4500 off of new car payments even if I did qualify,(and the insurance cost will eat that $4500 up quickly!)

I think the "cash for clunkers" is a great idea there are alot of people who can not aford a down payment on a car and that gives them other options besides just jumping into something that they will regret and there are alot of people who have old junkers now they can up grade.. thank you to who ever come up with this i have always drove cheap cars and most of the time when they break down it cost more to fix them then it did to bye them so i have a yard full of JUNKERS.

Several Years ago, around 1996, When my used Station Wagon fininally it the dust and I strobly atmitted it was a lost cluase, After six yaers of faithful sevice and God only knows the number of quarts of 40w and pump filled that now is part of the streets and highways of St. Augustine. I larned of a program somewhere in th Carolines that buys old cars for somthing and te money goestoa chrity, I toughthat would be good for the old girl so the man who towed it away give me a tax thing, like I really was interset in a tax write off. so I wondering if this was the same thing, just bigger.

Alot of the clunkers that were being traded would have been great cars for someone else. I think alot of the stimulus packages are not really helping those that need it most. They need to look into giving a stimulus package to everyone to really move the markets and the economy.

I think they should have taken the money and helped the people thats out of work. The only people that benifited from this were the car dealers & the junk yards. The average Joe thats hurting didn't get a thing.

No, I have a new car and do not need another one. I think that the prices of the new cars were jacked up to make an even more profit off people needing a new car. I think it is awful that this program is offered when there are so many people off work. A program like this should be offered when the economy is in better shape so people are not going more in debit.

No I will not. The incentive should have been limited to american built cars or at least a car that was more than 50% american built. This would have been a greater boost to the economy as well as the environmental benefits

I had purchased a new car already. Besides, they really did not take the "clunkers" off the road. If the car was over 25 years old, they didn't want it. What was up with that?

Well, from what I have seen on the T.V., it looks like alot of money being spent destroying perfectly decent running cars. Shouldn't things remain working if they are indeed working? Why be so quick to destroy what works!

I had new cars with the great milage,a great job, untill Obama got in office, I got layed off, lost the cars, have bad credit now.I drive clunkers. I got two for the price of one new car payment. The tags are cheeper and so is the insurance. The cash for clunkers program is going to make finding a used car harder and more expencive. well,at least untill the car lots are full of all the repos from the clunkers program.

No way! I don't think that it is right, especially because if you have "identity theft" you can't get anything. Everyone that I would try, would deny my credit! Maybe there should be some way to arrest people that hack "paypal" accounts. Then maybe I would be able to finally buy a new truck!

I can't afford a car payment.I do have an old truck that would qualfiy for the cash for clunkers. I think alot of people are cashing in on this, but well not be able to pay for their new cars. and some people are cashing in on this and can afford to pay cash for a car anyway. Also some of the trade in vehicles could help out alot of people that can't afford a new car. Some of these cars are in better shape then my vehicle.thaey should junk some of them . but i think it is a bad mistake to junk all of them.

No. I have an 11 year old Volvo which I plan to keep until it dies--and it may never!! It is greener to keep a car for a long time, and keep it up well than to buy a new car. My car is paid for and runs beautifully because I take good care of it.
